SINFIN RUNNING CLUB
MEET THE
CAPTAINS
Robert Lane
Men's Captain
I've been running since 2011, originally running with Team Derby Runner before joining Sinfin in 2016. I'm a big fan of fast short distance road running, anything upto a half marathon, but preferrably 10ks. Over the years I've also done my fair share of cross country, fell and trail running and have ran over 700 races, about 60% of those parkruns, which I'm a massive advocate of. I'm responsible for everything technical - yes I'm the "IT person" (but I'm no dinosaur!) - from capturing of member's race results, and putting together the league tables for the club's championships, to maintaining the club website, and putting together other social media content along with a small team of other members.

Gemma Meek
Ladies Captain
Hi I’m Gem, I joined the club in 2021 and have never looked back. SRC has become a massive part of my life, from track sessions, club nights, races and parkruns. I enjoy road running mainly, but have ran a few fell races, and hoping to try a bit of XC soon. I like most distances and happy to give anything a go. I am currently training for the London marathon 2025. I feel honoured to be part of the ladies Captain team, I like to make everyone feel welcome. I am always happy to run with anyone or offer support. It is as important to me seeing other people achieve their goals as it is me achieving mine.

Duncan Cowie
Men's XC Captain
I first joined the club in 1999 when I was in need of support and advice after getting a place in the London Marathon that year. It was a great choice as I got all the help I needed from the experienced runners. I developed a real passion for running and had a go at anything from 5K to marathons as well as cross country and other off road events. I’ve ran around 15 marathons in and beyond the UK and numerous other events in fantastic places with SRC friends. These days I particularly love off-road running along with many other like-minded people in the club and I regularly take part in cross country races and the club’s brilliant fell racing championship. As always with SRC, the camaraderie and mutual support among club members is what makes it so special.

Megan Wheeldon
Ladies XC Captain
I joined Sinfin Running Club in January 2025 and have not looked back, dipping my toe into a bit of everything including road running, fell races and XC - let’s just say I love a bit of variety! I’m no stranger to mud thanks to years owning horses, although I’m much more used to tackling it in wellies than running shoes. I’m currently training for the Manchester Marathon and really enjoying the challenge. As Ladies XC Captain, I love encouraging anyone to come along and give cross country a try, whatever their ability or experience. I’m always happy to run with others, offer support or advice, and cheer people on as they push themselves to new goals.
Martin Sower
Men's Fell Captain
I’ve been running since 2008 and have been part of Sinfin Running Club since 2018. Since joining, I’ve learned so much about running and made some great friends along the way. I’m especially drawn to longer distances, with several ultras and personal challenges lined up this year. And for those who know me, it’s no secret that I love a good hill. When I’m not on a long run, you’ll likely find me at a fell championship race or enjoying the post-race socials. This is my fourth year on the committee, and I really enjoy giving back to our club, whether that’s planning club runs or supporting our growing team of qualified run leaders. I’m also part of the fell support crew, working behind the scenes to bring the championship together and encouraging members to give fell running a go.

Caroline Scott
Ladies Fell Captain
I’ve been running since 2009 when I was already pretty old, and have been part of Sinfin Running Club ever since. I started out on the roads, before experiencing achilles issues that interrupted my development and led me onto softer ground. My favourite aspects of running are turning out for team competitions on the country, and losing myself in the world of the fells. Like Martin, I've made some great friends along the way who feel like I do about being off road, and it’s no secret that I too love a hill. When I’m not on the fells, you’ll likely find me at the post-race socials, alongside our mates and friends from other clubs, or reading totally non related historical fiction. I'm a lifelong Christian and have a heart for supporting women to blossom in the running world, especially those going into, through and out of their middle years.
