Sinfin RC Awards Night 2025
Photos of the evening can be found here
Saturday 25 January saw more than 80 runners, friends and family descend on The Rolls Royce Pavilion for the annual Sinfin Running Club Awards Evening. In place of the normal sportswear were frocks and ties with more than a dusting of sequins and sparkles. Whilst everyone arrived there was an opportunity to catch up with friends before taking a seat at one of the tables adorned with balloons. Before long everyone started tucking into their meal and talk turned to the many photos from the last twelve months that were being shown on the screen.
As the hosts for the evening, Sue Winter and Caroline Scott, confidently took to the stage the popcorn was passed around and everyone was invited to settle in for a film. Not the latest Hollywood blockbuster, it was better than that. It was a celebration of some of the club and member’s achievements from 2024. With parkruns to fell runs and marathons to one milers the film showed the huge breadth of events that members have taken part in as well as showing the wonderful support and friendships you can find at the club. The film also highlighted the amazing efforts of club members in raising over £27,000 for charity.
Following the film it was time for the presentations. Alongside the main hosts Robert Lane, Social Media Lead, presented a round up of the 2024 parkrun year, Trevor Hibbert, Fell Running Captain, also took to the stage to give an overview of the fell running championship.
Awards for the Grand Prix, Fell, Cross Country and Parkrun championships were accompanied by the parkrun Volunteer, Male and Female Performance, Best Newcomer and Club Person of the Year awards (all results are shown below). The hosts welcomed a number of special guests to the stage to present the trophies including Anne George who presented a trophy named in honour of a former club secretary, The Mick George Club Person of the Year Award
Once the presentations were over the party games began. Yes, you read that correctly. Chairs were brought to the dance floor for pass the parcel before a very competitive game of musical chairs. The dancefloor was then cleared for the DJ to work his magic. It wasn’t long before the dancefloor was filled again but this time with dancing, singing and laughter. If dancing wasn’t your thing there was plenty of socialising. This seemed to mainly centre around the photo booth, which was once again a very popular feature. With a prize available for the best photo the poses and props became more outlandish as the evening progressed with Sin and Fin, the fell running mascots, taking centre stage more than once.
As the clock struck twelve the party came to an end, or at least it did at the Pavilion.  There were reports that some people had enjoyed the evening so much they couldn’t bear for it to be over and may have continued the celebrations in the city centre.
There are some particular thanks for the evening. Sue Winter for organising the event with her team of helpers. Chris Swan for putting together and running the presentation slides. Martin Sower for editing and producing the film with Sue Winter. Mark Groves for the evening’s photographs.
