With it being the start of Autumn we see the change in the weather, yes it is definitely cooler, a welcome relief to our 201 runners today. The leaves have started to change colour and fall, but there was still plenty of green on display this week with it being Sinfin Run Club’s parkrun takeover. Many of the club’s runners are regular parkrun runners and volunteers. With this the club's 2nd takeover at Alvaston we saw some members taking on roles they haven’t done before, including me doing this week’s report, so here it goes.
Due to unforeseen circumstances it has been nearly three years since our last takeover but having settled on a date our Run Director Robert Lane, got the club organised with the call for volunteers being made back in early summer. Roles were quickly filled and we had all summer to wait for today’s parkrun. There were the usual crowd of Derby/Notts running clubs but also a number of tourists that had travelled from far and wide for today’s parkrun. Well done to the runner from Grantham who had chosen to claim their 50th parkrun here in Alvaston.
The bulk of our volunteers donned the pink vests and ventured out across the park and down the canal path to their marshalling points. At the finish area we had our team ensuring the funnel wasn’t congested, times were recorded, tokens were handed out and the team of three captured all those important bar codes. It was great to welcome back the 201 runners who were happy with how the morning had gotten off to a good start. There were 9 parkrun first timers and 38 Alvaston first timers. With the full roster Sinfin RC also provided a handful of pacers. Tomas, Sarah (who also clocked up her 50th parkrun), Shaz and Catherine were wearing the blue pacer vests. We hope they helped those runners looking for PBs today, of which we had 26 this week. Congratulations to those runners!
Thank you to the pacers!
Not named on the volunteer list we had some club members running the course and a number who had come down to share their encouragement by cheering and clapping the returning runners. If you’re looking to improve your running Sinfin RC is a sociable running club with something for all abilities. We run every Wednesday from Chellaston Park, Snelsmoor Lane, at 18:30. More information can be found on our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/SinfinRunningClub
Although this is the second time the club has done a parkrun takeover, we regularly see club members volunteer at parkrun. It’s important to remember that parkrun cannot operate without the generous help of volunteers, it’s a great way to give back to the parkrun community and I encourage anyone to give it a go!
